Dry-Type Transformers

Dry-type distribution transformers differ from oil-filled transformers in terms of their cooling methods. In these transformers, high-voltage (HV) windings are produced by encapsulating them in cast epoxy resin under vacuum. Low-voltage (LV) windings, on the other hand, can be manufactured using either the cast resin method or the resin-impregnated prepreg method. These manufacturing techniques provide high insulation strength and superior protection against moisture and environmental factors.

Description

The dry-type transformers developed by the company are manufactured in a power range of 25 kVA to 25,000 kVA and for voltage levels up to 36 kV, with options for natural air cooling (AN) or fan cooling (AF). The fan-assisted cooling system enables a power increase of up to 40% beyond the nominal rating. This feature offers a significant advantage, particularly for facilities experiencing high load fluctuations.

The production of dry-type transformers is a process requiring advanced technology and engineering expertise. Driven by rising customer demand in recent years, this product category is rapidly increasing its market share compared to oil-filled transformers. However, manufacturing high-capacity dry-type transformers at voltage levels of 36 kV and above still presents technological challenges. Astor Enerji continues to enhance its manufacturing capabilities by maintaining uninterrupted R&D efforts in this field.

Key reasons for choosing dry-type transformers include the absence of environmentally harmful cooling fluids, low fire risk, minimal maintenance requirements, resistance to humidity and moisture, and the ability to operate reliably even after prolonged periods of inactivity. Additionally, fan cooling support allows for safe operation at up to 40% above nominal power during short-term overloads.

Despite these advantages, dry-type transformers have a higher purchase price than oil-filled models of the same capacity. Nevertheless, their market share has steadily increased in recent years due to benefits such as low maintenance costs, environmental sustainability, and operational safety. Dry-type distribution transformers have become indispensable components of modern energy infrastructures, thanks to their safe energy distribution, long service life, and environmentally conscious operational approach.
